A ROCK & ROLL CHARITY

Hello, we are Music. Prescribed. We use music to create communities by giving away instruments and tuition. Our activities are funded by us (won’t cost you a penny!) and enjoyed by loads of different people. People like Mary who at 98 years old and living with sight loss has discovered a love of rock and roll. Or Sara, a refugee, who after learning just one chord on a guitar wrote a joyous song that still rattles around in our heads a year later. Or one of our younger learners, who was the shyest in her group but through guitar found the courage to create her own YouTube channel teaching everyone else what she was learning. Her parents were amazed, and so were we.

When you take a load of guitars and put them in the hands of a group of strangers those strangers become friends. And when you show someone that they can when they always suspected they couldn’t self esteem rises. Music. Prescribed. is all about tackling isolation, improving confidence and working towards better mental health. We create moments of happiness, peace and the warmth of wellbeing that comes through learning and taking the time to work on something special, something magic, just for you.

WHAT WE DO

We  are  a team of innovative musicians taking instruments and putting them in the hands of marginalised and socially isolated communities. We work towards reducing isolation and improving mental health, connecting communities and building self esteem.

COVID UPDATE

Whilst Covid rolls on and rains on all of our parades we have taken our services online for those that have internet access, and we have found innovative ways to deliver learning without digitally isolating those that don’t.. You can read more about us and Covid on our blog page.

If you work with a person or group of people who might need something fun to do while improving their mental health, get in touch.

In collaboration with:

“The Guitar Social’s world record breaking attempt is all about spreading the joy of Music to communities that are forgotten in the arts world. Good luck, keep doing the good work.”

The Cure

“It is really important to make music accessible to all. This ground breaking World record guitar lesson attempt is a great initiative, and is a small stepping stone on the way to enabling visually impaired people to learning an instrument. Who knows there may be another Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendrix in the bunch.”
